Damian Barr's Literary Salon at The Savoy....

The Savoy? Yes! The Savoy, was our latest venue for the ever impressive Damian Barr’s Literary Salon.

Last week The Savoy hosted Damian Barr’s Literary Salon in the Lancaster Ballroom. The Sunday Times journalist and award-winning author of Maggie & Me was joined by Susan Calman, Garth Greenwell, Joan Bakewell and Maggie O’Farrell: all four unveiled new books! Ella Berthoud, author of the Novel Cure, offered free bibliotherapy and the whole evening was live painted by Dan Llywelyn Hall.

It is a fantastic event and Vanity Fair agree!

Damian launched the Literary Salon in 2008 at Shoreditch House. Witty, intimate and welcoming it sparked a revolution in live literature. With British Council support it is touring the world and cities so far include New York, Berlin, Toronto, Istanbul, Moscow, Sydney and Auckland. Earlier this year Damian hosted a unique Salon in Sao Paolo with Polly Samson and David Gilmour. With its rich literary and cultural heritage, The Savoy is a natural and generous host.

The Salon always premieres new work from a heady cocktail of emerging and established writers. David Nicholls chose the Salon to launch One Day, Jojo Moyes unveiled Me Before You and Helen Fielding read printer-fresh pages of the new Bridget Jones. Other guests include Caitlin Moran, Diana Athill, David Mitchell, Colm Toibin, Nick Frost, Kirsty Wark, Lionel Shriver, Clare Balding, Taiye Selasi, John Lahr, Thomas Keneally and Bret Easton Ellis. The Salon is podcast on iTunes and on British Airways. Confirmed forthcoming guests include Rebecca Root and Alan Johnson.
